Cadillac announced the world first Escalade Hybrid, the first hybrid fuel economy applicable to a large luxury SUV. Powered by an innovative, fuel-saving 2-Mode Hybrid system, Escalade Hybrid will deliver more than 50 percent improvement in fuel economy in city driving – all while delivering the same distinctive style, segment characteristics main and full capacity in size that have made Escalade an icon.
“Escalade, already the sales and style leader of the large luxury SUV, now wishes adds fuel efficient, technically advanced hybrid system,” said Jim Taylor, Cadillac general manager. “The arrival of Escalade Hybrid means that consumers can now use less fossil fuel, reduce emissions and still enjoy the benefits of a full-size luxury SUV. ”
The hybrid is still sold in the United States in the summer of 2008 and is the latest example of technology leadership Escalade. Potential of hybrid sales in Europe is currently being evaluated with a decision expected within six months.
“No other manufacturer offers a hybrid than can seat eight luxury, while the transport or trailer load lots comfortably,” Taylor said. “And no hybrid gives the same dramatic presence with Escalade.
Escalade Hybrid is available in 2WD and 4WD configurations. This results in 6,000 pounds (2722 kg) towing capacity can be used 2WD models and 5700 pounds (2565 kg) on 4WD models. Escalade standards of comfort and convenience features are included. These include eight-inch touch-screen navigation system that displays performance readings 2 Mode Hybrid system on the screen.
Cadillac Escalade Hybrid to extend the lead in the category of large luxury SUV. Escalade sales have grown in the face of changing sales trends and increased competition. In fact, Escalade sales increased 22 percent in September last year on sale. Other models in the Escalade, including the protracted Escalade ESV and the versatile Escalade EXT luxury utility truck. Hybrid model is available with the standard body style of the Escalade.
Patented 2-Mode Hybrid technology
Escalade 2-mode hybrid system allows the return of fuel economy exceptionally well in the city and highway while delivering the ability of a true luxury SUV. In urban driving, this advanced hybrid power system enables Escalade to launch and encourage low speeds on electricity alone. As additional resources are requested, the system combines the output of the battery and gas engine smoothly.
GM 2 mode hybrid system is patented in the transmission power of an advanced variable (EVT) and 300-volt nickel-metal hydride Energy Storage System (ESS). This system works with a standard 6.0L V-8 Gen IV gasoline engine with Active Fuel Management (AFM) and late closing intake valve (LIVC) technology. AFM enables the V-8 engine smooth closing of half the cylinders when less power is required, as in highway cruising. This new hybrid system not only allows Escalade Hybrid to drive low speeds on electricity, but also allows the 6.0L V-8 to operate in a more economical four-cylinder mode longer.
The key to the system 2-mode hybrid Escalade is that the electrical power used to drive the hybrid vehicle produced by the system itself. When you apply the brake or wheeled vehicles, electric motors of the hybrid system create electricity that is stored in a battery of 300 volts. This stored energy is used to drive the vehicle and the regenerative braking cycle is updated.
2-mode hybrid system provides seamless, dependable power demand in an efficient package. In fact, with electric motors less than half the size of those in the system of one hybrid mode. This technology was developed and is still used in fleets of hybrid transit buses on the streets today in dozens of major cities in North America. Scale for use in a full-size SUV with a 2-mode provides fuel economy in need – a large vehicle with a high level of skill. This is a fundamental part of the efforts of GM’s energy diversity, which focused on reducing oil dependence, improving fuel economy, reduce emissions and minimize the impact of vehicles on the environment environment.
Smooth and quiet power of Cadillac
Specific details of acoustics to ensure that this hybrid model offers superior luxury that has become characteristic of the early Escalade. Details include:
* A new exhaust system and resonator specially attentive to the operation LIVC 6.0L Active Fuel Management engine. Ensuring a comfortable interior acoustics and a pleasant exhaust note during both V-4 and V-8 operation
* An electric-powered, 300-volt air conditioning compressor reduces vibration and allows the HVAC system to cool the passenger compartment even when the gasoline engine shuts off. Standard System Includes tri climate zone
* An electric-powered, 42-V-variable electric power steering reduces vibration and provides up to 0.5-mpg improvement in fuel economy by reducing parasitic losses common in belt-based hydraulic systems
* The energy storage system cooling system internal fan is tuned to be quiet in the vehicle speeds low, when the fan would be easier to be heard by the occupants.
The Escalade Hybrid maintain the quality that has made the leading large luxury SUV and a Cadillac’s flagship product renaissance in general. This immediately recognizable as a Cadillac and the integration of key brand style Sixteen concept vehicle, including a detailed signature grille, front fender vent ports and layers of chrome accents.
The Escalade’s warm and inviting interior features a premium design. This service is available in two colors, Ebony and Cashmere. Standard features include a panel of different instruments to measure white needles and blue light inlays to continue burning, white LED backlighting, Nuance leather seats, leather-covered door trim and center console, and assisted backdoor opens and closes with the touch of a button.
