GM HydroGen4 with the goal of sustainable mobility with zero emissions a step further when GM announced the European leg of their growing program to test fuel cell vehicles.
Nine companies will be the first to operate the GM HydroGen4 zero emission vehicles in the area of Berlin, through day to day business: ADAC, Allianz, Coca Cola, Hilton, Linde, Schindler, Axel Springer, Total and Veolia. This is a real-world road test will run under the umbrella of the Clean Energy Partnership (CEP), a German Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development-funded project focused on the development of daily testing the suitability of hydrogen as a fuel for road transport.

As an integral part of GM’s global strategy in the most advanced technology for the electrification of the car, this fourth-generation fuel cell vehicle is the culmination of more than 10 years to develop hydrogen technologies and fuel cells. HydroGen4 with the enhancement of everyday use, such as performance and durability. Globally, the GM spread more than 100 vehicles in the Project Driveway program testing in the U.S., Japan, Korea, China and Germany. In the U.S., more than 100,000 people currently used as a test driver for the market. To date, 3400 people have taken the vehicle and 30 families have used the vehicle every day for about three months. In total, the vehicle was driven almost 435,000 miles. Feedback from this demonstration activities not only provide the GM engineers important data validation, but also provides valuable insight into the ownership and driving experience possible prospects.
Vehicles are equipped with wireless data transmission that helps engineers to load the vehicle performance data to corporate servers. Maintenance vehicles deployed in Berlin, will be held at Opel dealers usually equipped with personnel and equipment needed to serve the fuel cell vehicle.
HydroGen4 fuel cell stack used 440 individual cells combine hydrogen and oxygen from the air to produce electricity, with water vapor as the only byproduct, and therefore with zero emissions. Fuel cells provide power to 73kW synchronous electric motor, giving 0-62mph acceleration in about 12 seconds and a top speed of 100 mph.
Features instant torque of electric motor also provides an excellent vehicle pick-up at low speed. GM HydroGen4 is equipped with 1.8 kWh battery buffer to store energy from regenerative braking and electric vehicles charge maximum range. Three carbon fiber composite tanks containing 4.2 kg of hydrogen at 700 bar pressure, sufficient for operating distances up to 320 miles.
GM HydroGen4 can start and operate at temperatures below zero, which is quite advanced in the previous-generation technologies and significant benefits for everyday use. It is designed to be as safe as conventional, and includes a unique security features of hydrogen in each of the main system.
